Sending Pingback with Blogger

::
In addition to the trackback add-on of Greasemonkey + Firefox combination, one other interesting tool I spotted is Scott Yang's Trackback 'em All script. Despite the fact that it is more complex than the former, it has an advantage of sending pingbacks, a more modern version of trackback.

Trackback 'em All is a command line tool that downloads RSS/Atom feeds, and sends either trackback or pingback to all linked URLs. It is particularly useful for Blogger blogs where neither is supported.

What it actually does is, it fetches your own feed, discovers the external links in your posts and sends a pingback to them. If that fails, the script falls back to trackback mode.

You will need Python and a universal feedparser to make it work. It can work out of the box on a Linux system minus the parser.

  1. This is definitely a useful plugin considering that bloggers do benefit in pinging other sites to keep them all updated so that traffic comes in easily and steadily. I'm currently reading the link you've added and may actually use it since my blog is still hosted in blogger.com. Anyway, thanks for the info.

  2. It looks like better than trackback as most sites support pingback now. Though I did not mention it, I see no reason for the script not to work in Windows. Please note, it will only send them. Presently there is no way to receive pingback or trackback on a standalone Blogger configuration. You have to host your scripts outside.

  5. Jitendra,
    You download your own blog's RSS feed with the program. Then the script discovers all outbound links in your post and sends a pingback to them.

    Thanks for promoting such a world class tool (at least to those of us with Blogger Blogs),

  11. Is there any place where they host such "pingback for blogger.com" service? I'm thinking of moving my blog from jakartaunwired.blogspot.com to my own hosted service based on wordpress because blogger doesn't support pingback.

    Thanks

    1. Hi Donald, did you ever find a way to get pingbacks in Blogger or did you have to move to Wordpress?
