The examples are given from the programming languages as this trend seems more popular there compared to other genres. For what it's worth, regardless of what you learn, reaching to an average level is easy. You can really buy a guitar book and if you are a bit talented, not much, you can start strumming that charming stranger's pain with your fingers in a couple of weeks.
The problem starts when you want to be above par, to excel in your chosen practice. All of a sudden reality strikes you with all its harshness. It brutally brushes your nose and reminds you that people you aspire and admire have come to those places you long to be not so easily. It had not been a swift ride.
Being good at something requires dedication, determination, daily practice and hard work. But those words do not sell, I guess.
